Outdoor Cam Pro – Retinal 4K Outdoor Camera

I just set up the camera and I’m very impressed. Set up was incredibly simple. Plug it in, scan the QR code, enter wifi password, let it update and then you can start setting it up or use defaults. EASY! It comes with mounting brackets but I have it inside pointing out. Turn of infrared to avoid nighttime reflections. It has a VERY long cord, which worked out great. Connection is fine so far. 4k is good, and much better than the 1080p. I’m putting up images of my ring flood that is mounted outside with a regular view and close with the same two images for the 4k camera so you can see the difference. They were taken seconds apart and screenshot from my iPad. Sound quality is not bad, but then, Ring has never had impressive sound quality for me….and I don’t really need sound as much as I need high quality images and solid connection. I don’t see any issues with reflection and you can rotate the base so the lens is right on the glass pretty much and that cuts the reflection. It’s larger and oval instead of round. It also has a very nice, wide angle with good quality even at the edges.

The camera is good and the picture is clear. I would; however, like to see 2 improvements to Rings line of cameras. 1.) don’t make them so big. My Google Nest cameras are much smaller and arguably just as clear. Why does this need to be so big? The form factor just seems old and outdated. 2.) This is more about the app, but again, comparing it to Google’s Nest Cameras, I wish that the “tiles” in the app showed a live video feed like Nest does when you are just scrolling through the tiles. Rather, Ring opts to use a “still shot” so you have to actually click on it to see live. Nest does a great job with this and I wish that Ring would create this feature as well.

The picture is great, especially in low light, and the sound quality is also very good. I feel like I don’t need quite so many motion notifications on it. I get it, someone is on the back porch. I don’t need a notification every 5 seconds of every move that is being made. Again, Nest notifies me and then gives me a break.

At the end of the day, the biggest thing that keeps me from switching my cameras to Ring from Nest is the “live tiles” feature mentioned above. Please change this, and you’ll have a loyal fan!

Great quality image paired with an oh so easy setup / configuration and very stable software application makes this camera a home run.

Excellent good definition and quality

Video quality is good but the new camera is a lot bulkier than the previous version. Especially if you use power over ethernet, it comes with a separate box you must use.
